V-Force (Machine Availability Tracking System)
Project Overview
At Vistaprint Deer Park, the first web server built was called V-Force. It was designed to automate the process of recording downtime information, which was previously done manually by shift leads using time sheets that were entered into a spreadsheet.
With V-Force, operators were able to use a web front end to record downtime information and provide additional details such as the Downtime Effect code, as well as a description of the problem, cause, and solution. This allowed for better tracking and analysis of downtime.
Over time, V-Force was expanded to include other data capture and reporting features such as machine availability reporting, an Andon screen, and email/SMS alerts to supervisors and managers regarding equipment downtime. It also allowed for material waste reporting, which helped identify issues such as poor quality materials or defective equipment. Additionally, V-Force provided live reporting with 30-second visual indicators highlighting key metrics in the production process.
